BEATRIZ/BARCELONA

2004. Fiction feature film. 85 min.

An Acteon production in co-production with TV3. With the support of Institut de Cinematografia i Arts Audiovisuals (ICAA) of the Ministerio de Cultura and the Institut Català d’Indústries Culturals (ICIC) of the Departament de Cultura de la Generalitat de Catalunya .

Alex, a documentary filmmaker, meets Beatriz by chance, a poor, eccentric woman with an original wisdom, to whom he proposes to shoot a documentary about her life and her neighborhood's life. The stories she tells and shows lead the filming to rebellious, critical and poetic moments of life. However, the incompatibility between their worlds and the pressure of the audience ratings will put an end to Alex's good intentions and will lead Beatriz to a limit situation.

Beatriz/Barcelona is about the tragic impossibility of any alternative to "normal" life in the consumer society, seen as a fatal mechanism in which everyone is trapped.

Cast: Beatriz - Mercè Arànega, Àlex - Josep Linuesa and Carles - Pep Jové.
