REFUGEES

2019. Video installation

On a screen, the Syrian poet Mohamed Bitari recites his poem "Refugees" in Arabic. The language resonates, what the poem expresses with the pure verbal meaning. On the other screen, Spanish actress Vicky Luengo recites the poem in its Spanish translation. What develops here is the play of meanings. In both cases, the camera follows the expression of the faces during the speech: we see poetry - its signifiers and its meanings - take shape. The two screens are not far from each other: there is no solution of continuity between meaning and significance, neither in each image, nor between them. The viewer can move with his own body and pay more attention to one or another dimension, but cannot separate them.
