The images of a place have different natures. Some are born from the memory and the fantasy of this or that group of habitants; others are carried by travelers who have passed by; urban plans, expert studies, political and social struggles, capital investments that give rise to others. All of them coexist, between tension and infection. In the innumerable encounters with the neighbors -of unreserved kindness- it seemed that the concern for the future - personal, of the neighborhood, of the region- constituted a nucleus around which many images and narratives gravitated.

The footage recorded during those months constitutes the raw material of L'Avenir. The main square is the place where the images and voices are shown, and where the inhabitants of Meurchin can take them back, after having given them to us, to continue, if they consider it appropriate, to weave their future.
