VALLÈS: MAKING PASTS, MAKING FUTURES
2019. Video installation.
Vallès: Making pasts , making futures is a project consisting of video installations, conferences and workshops that explore the proletarian memory of the Vallès region, historically and politically part of the so-called “red belt” of Barcelona.
Vallès: Making pasts, making futures explores an imaginary industrial zone in motion, from the great textile industries of the past that employed thousands of workers to the present signed by technological mutations, companies reorganization and globalization. The imaginary is, naturally, subject to people who live their memories, mutations, anxieties and hopes in their own skin.
The imaginary is also a cultural sediment that makes sense around some images.
Since "Exiting the Factory" (Lumière Brothers' ) to some essential contemporary photographic works; from the pictorial industrial and working iconography at 19th and 20th centuries to today's science fiction: everything creates us and allows us to understand.
Vallès: Making pasts , making futures is showed since december (2018) until june (2019) in different Vallès county places:
- Civic Center La Maurina - Terrassa
From june (2019) the set of pieces gets complete with others and it is exposed at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge. The curator of this exhibition is Valentín Roma.
The workshop proposes to bring together anthropologists, curators and artists who have worked on images of the industry. In a period that is often defined as an industrial "post", the imaginary of the factory and industrial work is transformed.
The workshop has as its starting point the work Vallès: Making pasts, making futures by Claudio Zulian.
